Volunteer shifts:
Monday – Friday
8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. 

Shifts are typically morning, afternoon or both, based on the amount of time you have available. 

Depending on current hospital needs, your availability and your interests, a schedule and position can be determined during your interview. Volunteer opportunities are available in most departments of the hospital.

Volunteer shifts:    
Monday – Thursday
6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. 

Activities include:            
  • Playing games and sports
  • Watching movies 
  • Participating in arts and crafts
  • Outings in the park  
  • Assist the information desk staff 
  • Distribute linens and snacks on the inpatient floor 
Volunteers provide fun and recreation to keep the children’s minds off their medical care and provide family-oriented activities while they are at Scottish Rite Hospital.

  • Proof of immunity or immunization to ALL of the following:
    • Born after 1956:
      • MMR (Measles or Rubeola, Mumps and Rubella)
      • CHICKENPOX – Either the age and date of illness or proof of the varicella vaccine
      • TDAP (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Acellular Pertussis) – TDAP vaccinations must have been given within the last 10 years
    • Born in or before 1956:
      • TDAP (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Acellular Pertussis) – TDAP vaccinations must have been given within the last 10 years
  •  Two completed reference questionnaires in a sealed envelope with the reference’s signature across the seal.

We offer orientation classes twice a month with convenient day and evening times. Orientation and tuberculosis (TB) screening are mandatory for all volunteers prior to their start date. TB skin tests are offered free of charge at orientation.

The Bernice and Brudus Meyerson Junior Volunteer Program has been established to commemorate a former volunteer couple’s love for giving back and their devotion to Scottish Rite Hospital’s mission and their fellow volunteers.

  • Acquire real-life work experience in a variety of departments
  • Plan an annual fundraiser, which supports the Legacy Scholarship Program 
  • Gain a positive, character-building experience that will open doors to future college and career pursuits
  • Make a difference in the lives of children

  • Select between one of two sessions (5 weeks) depending on your schedule
  • Volunteer one day per week for a four-hour or eight-hour shift

  • Students between the ages of 14 and 17
  • Students currently in 8th through 11th grades

Sign-ups begin each December 1 for the following summer.
Sign-ups for summer 2018 will be available December 1, 2017.

  • What is expected of a Junior Volunteer
  • Next steps to becoming a Junior Volunteer (application and process)
All information sessions will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium in the T. Boone Pickens Training and Conference Center at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.  

A parent or guardian is required to attend.

Applications will ONLY be distributed at the information sessions. Application due date and additional program dates will be included.

After your application has been reviewed, you will be contacted to schedule an interview.

Orientation is required for ALL new and returning Junior Volunteers. Dates and times will be given during the information session. Each orientation is two days. Volunteers are required to complete a tuberculosis (TB) screening prior to their start date, which is offered free of charge during orientation.

To qualify as a Returning Junior Volunteer, you must:
  • Have previously participated in the Bernice and Brudus Meyerson Junior Volunteer Program
  • Be between the ages of 14 and 17 years old
  • Be a high school student
  • Be in good standing with Volunteer Services and Scottish Rite Hospital
Returning Junior Volunteers in good standing will receive an email and letter in December regarding participation in the following summer. Please do not hesitate to contact our office with questions.

Volunteer and Counselor opportunities are available at six of our patient camps. For more information on our camps, including dates, please visit our Camps page.

Each camp will have training before camp that all volunteers and counselors will need to attend.

Inpatient Visits

Inpatient visits are for groups of 10 or less who are interested in providing hands-on activities for our patients. Anything from arts and crafts projects to sing-alongs and more help us create an experience that our patients, and you, soon won’t forget. 

Please Note: You need to be at least 15 years old to volunteer for an inpatient visit.

Reverchon Roundup 
This annual park cleanup is a great opportunity for groups of all sizes! Typically at the beginning of March, Reverchon Roundup brings community friends, area neighbors and volunteers together to help beautify our local park.

Dallas Marathon
Each December, Scottish Rite Hospital hosts a water station at the marathon. Come help hand out water, cheer on runners and support the hospital through this wonderful event.
