LEARN MORE

The hospital has developed highly regarded, specialized clinics, tailored to the specific needs of children with the following neurological conditions:
  • Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) Clinic: In 1990, the hospital created one of the first tuberous sclerosis complex clinics in the country, which has served as a model for TSC clinics nationwide.
  • Holoprosencephaly (HPE) Clinic: In the late 1990s, Scottish Rite Hospital developed an international registry and national database to collect information on patients with HPE, which it maintains today. Scottish Rite Hospital is home to the only HPE clinic in the U.S. and is supported by the Carter Centers for Brain Research in Holoprosencephaly and Related Malformations
  • Hereditary Spastic Paraparesis (HSP) Clinic: In 2012, the first and only pediatric HSP clinic in the nation was established at Scottish Rite Hospital.
  • Neuromuscular Clinic: The hospital has a world-renowned reputation for treating children with neuromuscular disorders that dates back to the late 1970s.
  • Motor Control Clinic: In collaboration with major universities around the country, the hospital has created a consortium focusing on childhood motor disorders.

The hospital’s internationally recognized orthopedists and neurologists have teamed up to create a multidisciplinary center for the care of children with cerebral palsy. The center has garnered worldwide recognition. It benefits patients locally as well as those who travel from across the country and around the world to receive Scottish Rite Hospital’s expert, individualized care.

Scottish Rite Hospital’s Neurology department is committed to the discovery and development of better treatments for children with neuro-orthopedic disorders. To accomplish this mission, the department actively collaborates with academic centers on a national and international scale. This collaborative research effort has yielded important discoveries that benefit children with nervous system disorders around the world.

To that end, the Neurology team recognizes the responsibility to share its innovation and knowledge with health care professionals and does so through highly respected training programs. Scottish Rite Hospital’s Neurology staff serves as faculty of UT Southwestern Medical Center and trains residents and fellows from around the world. Under the expert guidance of our neurologists, the residents and fellows contribute to the department’s world-renowned research initiatives and achievements.
