Scottish Rite Hospital is hosting the 6th annual International Perthes Study Group (IPSG) meeting, October 6-7. IPSG includes over 45 pediatric orthopedic surgeons and researchers from across the world who have a common goal of advancing the knowledge and treatment of Perthes disease.

The hospital’s Director of Research, Harry Kim, M.D., is the chair of the prestigious group. He is excited about this year’s meeting and the ongoing success of the organization. “Perthes disease is a rare pediatric hip condition which requires a dedication to research to bring light to the many mysteries of the disease,” says Kim. “Our group of medical professionals include physicians and researchers who are experts at their respective institutions. IPSG brings together specialists from around the world to advance the treatment of this disease through ongoing collaborative research.”

Scottish Rite Hospital is the lead site of this multicenter research study. The annual meeting provides an opportunity for the members to discuss and review the progress of current studies, report on data monitoring and allows the team to determine new project ideas for the next year.

After the conclusion of the annual meeting, the hospital is hosting the inaugural Parents Perthes Conference on Saturday, October 7. This conference has been organized by a team of volunteer parents whose children have been diagnosed with Perthes. The full day event is designed to increase awareness, create community support and share knowledge and research. Members from IPSG and various staff of the hospital are participating to provide expertise in the care and treatment of children diagnosed with Perthes.
