Share Your Story: Kinsley's Journey

Meet Kinsley, a patient seen by our rheumatology experts. Learn more about her journey below.

Blog written by Kinsley's mom, Brittany of Melissa, TX.

A few days after Kinsley’s 4th birthday, she started to experience leg pains. Her pediatrician ran some bloodwork and we learned that her inflammation markers were slightly elevated. Before we could make an appointment for her to see a specialist, Kinsley ended up in the ER because the leg pain was getting more and more severe. She could barely walk and could not even turn her neck. The doctors prescribed a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and referred us to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

Dr. Fuller and her team ran a variety of tests on Kinsley and told us they would not stop until they knew what was causing Kinsley’s pain and her loss in her range of motion. Being able to see a doctor at Scottish Rite Hospital was an incredible blessing for us.

Kinsley was diagnosed with polyarticular juvenile arthritis and Dr. Fuller immediately put Kinsley on an aggressive treatment to get her symptoms under control.

Every single person that we have come into contact with at the hospital has been amazing.

The nurses, child life specialists and people that work in the blood lab all have had an been incredibly patient with us – which has been wonderful since Kinsley had a fear of needles.

We felt like our life had been turned upside down. All of a sudden, weekly shots and quarterly bloodwork became our new routine. Slowly but surely, Kinsley’s symptoms started to improve. We have visited doctors at both the Dallas and Frisco locations and
have had nothing but exceptional experiences at each place.

Kinsley is now almost seven and doesn’t even cry when she has bloodwork or has to receive shots. We are currently weaning her off one of the medicines and she has been in a medicated remission for over two years.

We are on our third year of visits to the hospital and the routine bloodwork does not even faze Kinsley anymore. There is no fear or dread for appointments and she looks forward to getting popcorn, stickers galore and telling her doctor how well she is doing.
