Get to Know our SRH Staff: Sheila Baez, Occupational Health

What is your role at the hospital? What do you do on a daily basis? 
I am the occupational health nurse. The main job of my department is to monitor and support the health of the staff. We do job preplacement physicals, required immunization, ergonomic assessments, investigation after staff exposures, back to work requirements and injury monitoring. Right now, we are busy making sure all hospital employees receive their annual flu shot. 
 
What led you to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children? How long have you worked here?
I’ve had been working with the military for the last 34 years and felt like it was the perfect time for a change. I have been onboard for two weeks.
 
What do you enjoy most about Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children?
The interactions with the staff and the culture of the hospital. I have felt welcomed since my first day.
 
What was your first job? What path did you take to get here?
My first job was in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. Later, I completed my bachelor’s degree and became an active duty Navy nurse.
 
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Travel, boating and camping.

Adventurous, creative, passionate
 
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
Work with a medical mission.
 
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
Jump out of an airplane.
