Get to Know our SRH Staff: Cheryl Walker, Ambulatory Care

What is your role at the hospital? What do you do on a daily basis? 
I am a nurse in the Ambulatory Care department. I work with Dr. Karol, Dr. Johnston and Dr. Herring in their orthopedic, scoliosis, plaster and prosthesis clinics. 
 
How long have you worked at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children? 
33 years
 
What do you enjoy most about Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children?
Interacting with the children and their families. I enjoy having the opportunity to build relationships with the patients. They become like family. 
 
What was your first job? What path did you take to get here? 
My first job was when I was in high school working in a grocery store in the bakery/deli. I went to college in Ohio, then worked as an inpatient nurse for a year before moving to Texas. I worked at Baylor on an inpatient floor for five years before I came to Scottish Rite Hospital. 
 
What do you like to do in your spare time? 
I enjoy ministry work, reading, archery, lifting weights, playing racquetball and fishing.
 
Three words to best describe you: 
Follower of Jesus
 
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I would have been a teacher or a counselor.
 
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?  
The most adventurous thing I have ever done is probably my mission trip to Guatemala.
