Get to Know our SRH Staff: Becca Dieckmann, Research

What is your role at the hospital?
As a research coordinator on the spine team, I study non-operative interventions for scoliosis, specifically bracing and physical therapy exercises. I enroll our patients into prospective studies and audit data to assist in the development of clean and trustworthy research.

What led you to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children? How long have you worked here?
I started working at the hospital in June 2016. I was led to work here by an interest in being a part of clinically meaningful research studies that change the lives of patients.

What do you enjoy most about Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children?
My favorite thing about the hospital is the history. I love that a small group of people did what they believed in to help patients in a sacrificial way.

What was your first job? What path did you take to get here?
My first job was as a protected species observer on oil vessels. I worked with seismic crews to limit the activity that could negatively affect marine animals such as whales, dolphins and sea turtles. From there, I went on to research skin care products with a small company and then found my job here at Scottish Rite Hospital.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to bake, spend time with my husband outdoors biking or hiking, and I love exploring new cities and countries.

Three words to best describe you:
Christian, organized, outdoorsy

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I would be a baker.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
Travel through Peru with a 28 liter backpack for 10 days with my husband and two friends.
