Tyler - BMW Dallas Marathon Patient Champion

Since 2007, the Patient Champion program has enlisted Scottish Rite Hospital patients to help encourage and cheer on runners in the BMW Dallas Marathon. This program is a way to highlight some of the wonderful kids the marathon generously supports each year. We’re excited to introduce you to Tyler!

Tyler, age 9, of Burleson, has been coming to Scottish Rite Hospital for scoliosis treatment since he was 2 years old. This past summer, Tyler was in halo traction before his spinal fusion surgery. During his inpatient stay at the hospital, Tyler was known for rocking his Texas Rangers gear throughout the hospital and for going outside every chance he got!

Since being home, Tyler is most likely to be found spending time playing outside or fishing. His love for the outdoors is matched only by his dedication to the Rangers, which manages to lure him back inside every once in a while. His dream is to either work for Major League Baseball (MLB) or to become an engineer.

Tyler said his favorite part of being at Scottish Rite Hospital was getting to know all the staff members. In October, Tyler came back to Scottish Rite Hospital to visit with and thank the nurses and caretakers who got to know him while he was an inpatient. He said the staff is what made him feel right at home during his stay at the hospital.

On race day, not only will Tyler be cheering on the runners, but he will also be celebrating his 10th birthday! Tyler’s family friend, Beth Gregory, runs the Dallas Marathon in honor of Tyler every year. We invite you to join our team of fundraisers on behalf of Patient Champions like Tyler and all the patients of Scottish Rite Hospital through our marathon fundraising page.
