Staff from the Hospital Lead 4th China-TSRH Orthopedic Surgeons Association Meeting

Scottish Rite Hospital is world-renowned for the treatment of children with orthopedic conditions. Throughout the year, our doctors and researchers travel the world to educate and share their research with fellow medical professionals.

Recently, members from Scottish Rite Hospital traveled to Qingdao, China for the 4th China-TSRH Orthopedic Surgeons Association meeting. This conference brings together two countries to collaborate and enhance the treatment of pediatric orthopedic patients around the globe. Over the years, various medical staff from Scottish Rite Hospital have had the privilege of traveling to China to share and learn about the leading-edge research and innovative techniques regarding orthopedic surgery.

This year, Director of Research Harry Kim, M.D., M.S., F.R.C.S.C. and Chief Medical Officer Steve Richards, M.D. attended as the visiting professors. Additionally, researcher Johnny Zhang, M.D.* was the program director for the spine symposium and made a presentation regarding syndromic scoliosis.

Kim led a two-day hip symposium which focused on discussing the treatment and diagnosis of Perthes disease and developmental dysplasia of the hip. Richards led discussions and case presentations regarding spinal deformities and treatment options for certain types of scoliosis patients.

Zhang, who has been a key member of this group since its inception, sees great value in this ongoing, collaborative relationship between China and Scottish Rite Hospital. “It is a great opportunity for our hospital to be able to share our knowledge and expertise around the world,” says Zhang. “I am honored and thrilled that we are able share recent research and educate various Chinese surgeons to bring better care to the patients.”

The China-TSRH Orthopedic Surgeons Association serves as the bridge connecting surgeons from China and the United States. Our team of doctors and researchers look forward to the advancement of this group and the opportunity to share the latest innovations to bring the best care to not only our patients, but children around the world.
