Share Your Story: Never Looking Back

Meet Quinn, a patient who is treated by our experts in our Center for Excellence in Hip. Learn more about her journey below.

Blog written by Quinn's mom, Whitni, of San Angelo.

Quinn’s birth was a scheduled C-section because she was situated in a breech position.

During the standard exam following her birth, our pediatrician noticed that her hips were "popping”, so he sent us to have an ultrasound. This confirmed that she had Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH), in both of her hips. He referred us to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Our first appointment with Dr. Kim was on her original due date - she was only 12 days old!

We weren't sure what was going to happen. It's a scary thing to take your 12-day-old baby to a hospital that is five hours from home.

We immediately felt welcomed by everyone at the hospital.

That first day was long - ultrasounds, appointments, harness fitting, etc., but we left with a Pavlik harness and a plan for treatment!

Quinn spent 15 weeks in a Pavlik harness and we continued to visit the hospital several more times during those weeks. In July of 2017, Quinn was released out of her harness and has never looked back!

She loves to run and play, especially loves animals and is a walking, talking, sassy, almost 2-year-old. We are incredibly thankful to Dr. Kim, his staff and the hospital for making our visits so wonderful!!

Our older two children also loved when we would visit the hospital – the popcorn, the playground, the train tables and especially the fish tanks made our visits enjoyable for the entire family.

Scottish Rite Hospital gave my baby the ability to live a normal life.

Everyone there loved our family and we have been amazingly blessed. I will never forget the treatment we went through with Quinn, but thanks to Scottish Rite Hospital, we now get to watch our Quinnie girl kick soccer balls, dance to music and run with her siblings without worrying about her hips and legs.
