Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children is hosting the fourth annual Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine (PRiSM) meeting this Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28. The meeting, co-sponsored by Scottish Rite Hospital and the Andrews Institute at Children’s Health, is expected to have more than 200 participants to discuss prevention, treatment and advancements in sports medicine for children and adolescents.

The keynote speakers for the two-day conference include Scottish Rite Hospital’s Chief of Staff Emeritus, Tony Herring, M.D., and James Andrews, M.D., one of the founding members of the Andrews Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama. Other presenters include doctors and researchers from various hospital areas, including psychology, sports physical therapy, radiology and movement science, to provide a multidisciplinary and well-rounded program for all attending. Co-chair of the Program Committee for PRiSM and Assistant Chief of Staff at Scottish Rite Hospital, Philip Wilson, M.D., views this meeting as an opportunity for sports medicine professionals from around the country to come together to discuss various sports-related topics. “With the increase of youth sports participation across the world, it is essential that we have a group dedicated to understanding this specific field in order to enhance and standardize patient care,” says Wilson.

Today, prior to the start of PRiSM, the Research in OsteoChondritis of the Knee (ROCK) study group will be meeting at Scottish Rite Hospital to discuss current research studies and various clinical cases to advance and standardize the care of patients diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans (OCD). ROCK is a group of doctors and researchers who are devoted to better understanding the diagnosis and management of physical activity for patients with OCD. Scottish Rite Hospital’s sports medicine physicians, Philip Wilson, M.D., and Henry Ellis, M.D., are both members of the group.
