#SRHaccess Facebook LIVE Recap: Getting to Know Corey Gill, M.D., M.A.

On this week’s Facebook live, we were at our Plano campus getting to know our newest pediatric orthopedic surgeon, Corey S. Gill, M.D., M.A. Below is a recap of the conversation.

What is his background?
  • Grew up in Woodstock, Georgia – 45 minutes outside of Atlanta.
  • Completed undergrad at the University of Georgia.
  • Received medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
  • Moved to Dallas for his fellowship at Scottish Rite Hospital. 
  • Stayed in Dallas after completing fellowship training and went into private practice. 
What was it like being a fellow at SRH?
  • It was a family atmosphere from day one. Everyone was very welcoming and helpful.
  • The learning environment is like no other institution. For a year, it was like being in a living textbook. 
  • A great opportunity to take care of children with very complex and difficult conditions. 
How did he get interested in pediatric orthopedics? 
  • Before having an interest in orthopedics, he went on a medical trip to Malawi, Africa to work on a malnutrition project.
  • During that time, the area was building an orthopedic hospital with very little resources. 
  • Volunteers staffed the hospital and he was able to witness the impact it had on the quality of life and see first-hand the great work of the orthopedic surgeons.
Who is his hero?
  • Childhood hero: Dale Murphy from the Atlanta Braves, two-time MVP.
  • His family.
Go to karaoke song?
He claims no one wants to hear him sing and prefers listening to music.

Favorite holiday?
Christmas

First job?
Bagging groceries at Kroger.

Road trip or airplane?
Airplane – you can get to more places.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
The ability to fly.

Favorite sport?
College football.

Favorite thing to do in Dallas?
So many things to do in this big and wonderful city. In the summer time, he and his family enjoy going to the pool, doing outdoor activities or going to various art museums.
