What is orthopedic surgery?

Orthopedic surgery is a type of surgery that pertains to the musculoskeletal system and can include the spine or a majority of the extremities. At Scottish Rite for Children, we are focused on healing muscles joints and bones – from sports injuries to orthopedic conditions to fracture care and everything in between.

What types of surgeries will happen here in Frisco?

We will offer different types of surgeries for various orthopedic conditions including sports-related injuries.

What’s your area of specialty? Are there certain types of cases you typically do?
Pediatric sports medicine, ACL injuries, pediatric arthroscopy, injury prevention, hip arthroscopy, and osteochondritis dissecans.

When will our new OR be officially open?

Mid-November

What are some of the highlights here you want people to know about?

All of our technology is brand new and the most advanced, state of the art equipment. The majority of our equipment is for arthroscopy. Arthroscopy is a procedure for diagnosing and treating joint problems with a small fiber-optic video camera to view inside your joint. The camera view is then transmitted to our high-definition video monitors. That allows us to get an up-close look at what’s happening throughout the surgery. We are also able to have x-rays and MRI images displayed on our monitors for surgeons to reference throughout the procedure.

What can families do while they wait?

We do not want our patients’ parents to be leaving the facility while their child’s in surgery, it is important for us to be able to be in constant communication. Parents can hang out in our lounge, otherwise known as our “Ronald McDonald Family Room.” This room is a place for parents to relax while their child is undergoing surgery with our team of experts.

What are the pre-operation rooms for?

Our pre-operations or “pre-op” rooms are where patients have the chance to meet everyone who will be involved in their surgery. This is where your surgeon will go over the surgery with you and sign your site. This is the time when patients and parents can ask any questions they may have.
