Quality Care is at the Forefront of Scottish Rite Hospital

At Scottish Rite Hospital, providing quality patient and family-centered care is at the forefront of our mission. The team in our Performance Improvement (PI) department are dedicated to continuous improvement for patient safety and overall quality outcomes for the hospital. The department has oversight for quality, patient safety, infection prevention, patient satisfaction and accreditation. The PI team utilizes quality improvement tools in conjunction with evidence based practices to deliver strategic, hospital-wide data driven programs.

The work of the hospital’s dedication to quality has been awarded on both the international and national stages. In May, staff orthopedist Amy L. McIntosh, M.D. and the Director of Performance Improvement, Kerry Wilder, received the best Quality, Safety, Value Initiative (QSVI) presentation at the inaugural EPOSNA meeting in Barcelona, Spain. The hospital’s quality project titled, “Significant Reductions in Surgical Site Infection (SSI) in Spinal Fusion Patients Using a Bundled Intervention Approach” structured a process to improve infection rates for patients undergoing spine surgery. This multidisciplinary quality initiative successfully completed several plan-do-act-study cycles of improvement over a seven-month period and achieved significant reductions in surgical site infections. This is just one of the many ongoing initiatives the team is conducting to bring the best care possible to our patients.

Recently, the hospital was recognized for outstanding patient care for the third consecutive year by the National Research Corporation (NRC). Scottish Rite Hospital was selected as a recipient of the NRC 2017 Excellence Award as one of the Top Performing Facilities – Children’s Hospitals. Award winners were chosen from an extensive group of institutions ranging from specialty hospitals to large health systems. The national award acknowledges those with the highest overall patient satisfaction scores.

Scottish Rite Hospital’s Performance Improvement department is an integral component to the world-renowned care provided to our patients. The team is committed to enhancing various processes within the hospital to provide the safest environment for our patients and their families. Through this ongoing dedication, the hospital is honored to be recognized as a leader in quality improvement.
