What is your role at the hospital? What do you do on a daily basis?
I manage the donation database of over 400,000 records, which is housed in Raiser’s Edge fundraising software. On a daily basis, I work with donor data for all hospital mailings, donation tracking, data maintenance and reporting.

What skills do you need for your job?
The ability to think analytically and problem solve. You have to think outside the box and consider all the different ways the data will be used. Perseverance in taking a project from start to finish, in order to achieve the desired results, requires you to strategize your methods.

What led you to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children? How long have you worked here?
I worked for another nonprofit and loved my job there, but they were considering relocating and I had no desire to move. At the time, I used Raiser’s Edge fundraising software and I had a site visit from staff members at the hospital that were interested in switching over the database software. A couple of months later, I received a call from the hospital regarding an opening. I feel like coming here was an answer to my prayers and that I was intended to be here. I have been at the hospital for 21 years.

What do you enjoy most about Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children?
The overall atmosphere at the hospital. Seeing other staff smile at each other and the care and concern for patients and families. I’ve never been anywhere like it. If you look lost, someone asks if they can help you. There is a feeling of belonging.  

What drives or motivates you to do what you do every day?
I love knowing that in some small way, I am making a difference in these children’s lives. I love what I do and love working with data. I am motivated to always give 100% because I get satisfaction from doing things right.

What was your first job? What path did you take to get here?
Gosh, I had numerous jobs as a teenager all through high school. I worked for an oilfield company and then moved to a manufacturing company in the office. I went from there to my last job as a membership secretary and became the systems administrator. I enjoy using new software and understanding different systems.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to read. Spending time with my family and my awesome grandchildren. I love shopping for shoes and purses - well, shopping in general. Volunteering at my church is my most rewarding way to spend my spare time

What did you want to be when you grew up?
A psychologist. Although now I’ve decided that when I do finally grow up, I would like to be a forensic pathologist. I find it fascinating.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done? 
I took three 17-year-old boys and two 14-year-old girls to Florida. Next summer I am going with my daughter and granddaughter to Scotland - it will be a great adventure.
