What is your role at the hospital? What do you do on a daily basis? 
I am a photographer and graphic designer in the Communications department. We tell the story of the hospital as well as assist the different departments in telling their stories. I mainly work with the medical side by getting materials ready for conferences or creating handouts, but our roles have us working in pretty much every area of the hospital. 

What led you to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children? How long have you worked here?
I began as a junior volunteer at age 14. My stepmother was a staff member and told me about the program. I was a volunteer for five summers and found my love of photography in the hospital’s darkroom where I spent a lot of my time. I returned as a staff member in 2006 and have been with the hospital for 13 years.
 
What do you enjoy most about Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children?
I love getting to capture special moments and interactions throughout the hospital - from patients and nurses on the inpatient floor, to moments in the operating room between a fellow and the doctor, or even a family getting a bag of popcorn as they leave. These little moments are what make every day at the hospital so special.  
 
What was your first job? What path did you take to get here?
In my first job, I was a waitress. It taught me how to multitask and ask questions up front. Plus, managing refills of soda, chips and salsa teaches you wonderful time management skills. The nice thing about waiting tables is that you are instantly told if you did a good job or not by the tip you are left, and you have another chance to improve almost immediately.
 
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I am a mom to two wonderful kids - Matilda, age 6 and Andrew, age 2, and have a wonderful husband, James. I am also an avid runner and can usually be found sneaking in a run here or there. I live in Fort Worth, so my commute doesn't lend a lot of free time, but we sneak in fun when we can.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I actually started college with the intent to go into research medicine, but like so many, it was just too expensive to complete my medical degree, so I got my art degree instead. Sometimes I feel like I should have fought harder to make a medical degree happen. 
 
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
After college, I moved to Seattle with only what would fit in my car, knowing no one in the city. It was really strange and frightening, but in the end, I know I can be put in any situation and find a way through it.
