Get to Know our SRH Staff: Olivia Waidmann, Volunteer Services Coordinator
What is your role at the hospital? What do you do on a daily basis?
As the volunteer services coordinator, I manage the volunteer application process, outpatient clinic volunteers, certain special events and help with Gift Shop operations. Each day is a new day, so there is no telling what the day will bring. I am the first person volunteers see when they check-in, and I am their go-to person for questions, comments or concerns. It truly makes every day exciting!
What led you to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children? How long have you worked here?
I attended Southern Methodist University and found an internship for the Junior Volunteer Program on our career site, beginning the summer of 2015. I am from St. Louis and had no prior history or knowledge of the hospital, but fell in love immediately after coming for my interview. I was fortunate enough to be brought on as the intern the summer of my junior year. I came back to Scottish Rite Hospital in February 2017 and have been here ever since.
What do you enjoy most about Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children?
I absolutely love meeting and working with so many different people. Staff, volunteers or patients - everyone has a story on why they are here. I have been lucky to work alongside many wonderful volunteers who have taught me so much about life, myself and much more.
What was your first job? What path did you take to get here?
After college, I started off as a technical recruiter at a startup company. I quickly learned that I missed working in a team environment where you worked together and not against each other. I reached out to Volunteer Services and learned that they had a job opening as the department associate. I started here in February 2017 and am thankful I made it back to the hospital.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I am a total foodie and love exploring new restaurants in Dallas!

Dedicated
Loyal
Compassionate
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I adore kids, so I probably would be a teacher.
What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
Going white water rafting and rock climbing in Taos, New Mexico.
