Get to Know our SRH Staff: Lindsay Sureck - Physical Therapist

Lindsay Sureck is a physical therapist who has been working at the hospital for the past two and a half years. Learn more about her in our SRH Staff Spotlight below:

What’s your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is the ability to improve a child’s functional independence, strength, mobility and confidence after an initial injury, receiving a prosthesis, or post-op through physical therapy treatments.

What’s your favorite thing about the hospital?
My favorite thing about Scottish Rite would have to be the non-hospital feel inside of a hospital. Through our volunteers, clinical and non-clinical staff, there are so many people that go out of their way to make a child feel at home when it’s not home.

Describe a typical day.
A typical day is treating patient upstairs, whether that be in our gym or helping out on the inpatient unit.

How did you find out about the hospital?
I was actually a patient at Scottish Rite Hospital when I was younger, where I was treated for my scoliosis.

What made you want to work here?
Being a patient here was an influencing factor of why I wanted to work here. I wanted to be able to help children in the same way in which I was treated. I was recently trained in a method for scoliosis specific exercises, which allows me to treat patients with scoliosis, which is very fulfilling as I was treated here for scoliosis.

What skills do you need for your job?
In order to be a physical therapist, you should be good at working with others, communicating and being creative.

What was your first job? What path did you take to get here?
Scottish Rite Hospital was actually my first job out of school. I went to the University of Missouri for both my undergraduate and graduate studies. I had several clinical rotations, my last one being at Scottish Rite before accepting a full time position after passing my board exam.

What is your favorite…
  • Hospital event: Staff holiday lunch
  • Food in the cafeteria: Tomato soup day
  • Place in the hospital: Playground
What is your favorite…
  • Place to travel: Italy
  • Type of food: Sushi
  • TV show: Breaking Bad or Curb Your Enthusiasm
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I knew I wanted to be a physical therapist when I was around 16. I played competitive soccer and my teammates and I were in and out of injury and recovery, and it was around this time that I thought this was what I would want to do.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
I am not super adventurous; I’d probably say cliff jumping when I was a camp counselor several years ago.

What’s the last book you read?
Running the Rift (thanks to Heather Benham for the recommendation)!

What kind of animal would you be?
Can I say my own dog…that or a cheetah.

What is something people don’t know about you?
I enjoy running. I ran my first marathon last year, and I try to do at least one half-marathon a year.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?
I hope no one has to ever hear me sing, but if I had to choose, it would probably be a song from the 80s.
