Brandon Carrell Visiting Professorship Register

Date/Time: June 21, 2024, 8:00 AM

Please join us for the 46th anniversary of the Brandon Carrell Visiting Professorship Friday, June 21, through Saturday, June 22.

We’ve planned an exciting scientific session with Jon Schoenecker, M.D., Ph.D. He will share from his vast breadth of expertise, with broad reaching lectures from the biology linking trauma and infection to a biologic and biomechanical approach to hip dysplasia to how to make developing cartilage "do what it's supposed to do," to the biology of bone healing and how we can apply that to improve outcomes in spinal fusion. He'll share helpful tips to enhance your practice and thoughtful approaches to routine and complex conditions, so we look forward to coming together to discuss the latest advancements in pediatric orthopedics.

We are pleased to welcome pediatric orthopedic surgeon-scientist, Jonathan Schoenecker M.D., Ph.D., as our visiting professor, to share his expertise in pediatric orthopaedic hip and lower extremity conditions, trauma and infection and spinal deformity.

Jonathan Schoenecker, M.D., Ph.D., is associate professor and Jeffrey Mast Chair of Orthopaedic Hip and Trauma Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is an orthopedic surgeon-scientist dedicated to caring for children with orthopedic hip and lower extremity conditions, trauma and infection, educating future surgeon-scientists and conducting high impact translational research.

Topics:
  1. The biology of fracture healing and what that may teach us about spinal fusion
  2. Slipped capital femoral epiphysis: our evolving understanding of its pathogenesis and the approach to treatment acutely and for residual deformity
  3. The links between major trauma and severe infection that may help to decrease mortality in our severely ill/injured patients
  4. Developmental dysplasia of the hip: the biology and biomechanics that make developing cartilage “do what it’s supposed to” and how that influences his approach to residual dysplasia and even Perthes disease
